OLDER TODDLERS

(Blooming Toddlers, 2 - 3 years old)

Two year old want to be independent. They want to explore, touch and mimic their peers and teachers. At, Ana’s Kids our teachers will use a play based learning curriculum where the daily activities will be bright and cheery to encourage children to investigate the world. Through playing, our toddlers will work at their own pace and learn to do tasks independently.

Areas of development:

Social Emotional Development: Toddlers at age two are experiencing a wide variety of emotions; teachers will guide the children to express their emotions in healthy and safe ways. Caring teachers will show children different ways to convey their emotions, from sadness and frustration, to happiness and joy. Also, we encourage the children to engage in group play, and dramatic play.

Cognitive skills: Cognitive skills are the foundation of learning and knowledge. At age two, children’s cognitive skills are expanding quickly. Our learning stations are filled with math manipulative, science elements, and stimulating visuals that support brain pathways for cognitive development. Problem solving is considered one of the best ways to support brain development, so our teachers conduct activities to help children explore cause and effect and employ questioning strategies that promote higher level thinking.

Language and Literacy development: Between the ages of two and three, children’s vocabulary can grow to nearly 300 words. At Ana’s Kids teachers provide children with the tools they need to communicate within their classroom community by guiding them to put their desires into words. Children are encouraged to identify common objects, speak in three-to-five-word sentences and ask and answer simple questions about stories in books.

Physical Development: Ana’s Kids addresses both gross motor skills, which strengthen the large muscle groups of the body, as well as fine motor skills, which include the smaller finger and hand muscles. Children are prompted to climb, jump, hop, and run on the playground to strengthen their leg muscles. Two year old don’t realize they are bolstering their fine motor skills in the Creative Arts Center, but they do know that they are having fun finger painting, making collages, coloring with sidewalk chalk, and creating with clay.
